Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief - A Book Review

Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief - A book by Rick Riordan

Synopsis:  I don't want to spoil the excitement and reveal all of what's in this book so I will make this brief.

This book is about a 12-year old boy named Percy Jackson whose father is a Greek god.  His adventures started when he accidentally vaporised his Maths teacher.  That was only the beginning.

****

I remember the last time I read a book like this was when I read Harry Potter.  I finished all the first 4 books in the series and have yet to read the rest.  I do remember how exciting it was and how much I anticipated reading each page...and how hard it was to put the book down!  Percy Jackson is another good example of this kind of book.  Each chapter is full of suspense and action.  My heart was pounding as I read each one of them.  To master Greek mythodology and create a character like Percy Jackson and turn it into an interesting story like this is pure genius.  The twists and turns of the story and the unpredicable ending added to all the action!  No wonder this has been made in to a film!  Each page made me wonder what was going to happen next.  It is a real page-turner!  It definitely kept me reading - I got hooked!  I wanted to know who his father really was or what was going to happen next after he had killed a Minotaur or after he got to the Half-Blood Hill.  I wondered all throughout who stole the lightning bolt.  Was it really Hades?  Was it Poseidon?  Who was it?  Why would they steal it?

Rick Riordan really did well on this one.  He really wrote it well.  I loved it!!!!

I now have the 'Titan's Curse' and the 'Sea Monsters'....they are the next ones on my 'for reading list!'

Congratulations, Rick Riordan, for such an amazing book!  Great characters, impressive plot, well-thought out twists!  A must-read by all!  Highly recommended for all ages.  Ten stars.

My 11-yr-old son loved these. It's got him on a whole Greek god kick, replacing his World War II interest. At his urging, I read the first three but then gave up. I liked them and I agree it's fast-paced. But I didn't love them as much as Harry Potter. Maybe I should keep reading.

It's been ages since I read a book. I am becoming so lazy. It's llike my attention span has become really short.

Books are a little young for me, but I do want to watch the movie.

oh, i will refer this review to my niece Len, she likes suspense such as this. I use to, but not much these days. I used to love reading books and watching movies a lot, however, when the great outdoors kicked on me, it seems whenever I have free time, I would always go out to rejuvenate and take my stress away. aside from textbooks and teaching books, the ones that i just read now are travel books, hiking books and photography.
