You know this already...I'm a mum. And a mushy mum. I don't know why but I'm just a darn softie. You show me someone crying and my tears will fall, too. To be honest, I don't like it. But that's just the way my eyes are and the tear ducts.
Ok, Len, get to the point, will yah?
So, I just have to share this photo with you. It's of my son holding a soft toy from Father Christmas at Fritton Lake Winter Wonderland.
Because of his neurological condition, my boy doesn't speak and he's in a wheelchair. In Santa's Grotto, Father Christmas spoke to him, held his hand and had photos with him. He just looked around and I knew the scene would be etched in his memory forever but whether or not he understood what went on, I wouldn't have a way of knowing. All the while, I wondered if he understood any of it. When one of Santa's "Elves" gave me Santa's gift - a soft toy called Rupert Bear on the way out, I handed it to my boy. As if to answer the question in my mind - he softly got hold of the soft toy, pulled it close to his chest and pressed it against his lips.
You know what? The sight of him clutching the toy made me so tearful. He loved it. In his own way I knew he enjoyed the trip. And he loved Rupert.
Here's his beautiful photo. Isn't he lovely?
And I just have to say this, the man who was Father Christmas that afternoon at Fritton Lake was the kindest Father Christmas I've met so far. If you are reading this, thank you. I've taken your kind words home with me.
And thank you most especially to Contact-A-Family for this early Christmas family gift. (I meant to post this bit the day I posted my son's photo but needed permission first)
Anything exciting you're doing this for the winter/holiday/Christmas season?
and what makes you all mushy?

My little piece of heaven
Some of you may already be aware that my son J has complex needs. He doesn't walk. He doesn't speak. I think I've written in one of my posts how I waited for milestones that never happened. I waited and looked at the calendar each month, each year. Then I stopped counting.
He was three years old when he held a feeding bottle. He was four when he began to roll over. Yes, when other three year olds and four year olds were learning to read and write, my son was only beginning to roll over. Then he stopped doing them due to the intractable seizures.
I haven't given up though. Because my husband and I talk to him each day and lately, we have been encouraging him to say 'Ahhh.' This has been for a few days now, or maybe a week or so.
A few days ago, we got a response from him.
Yes. A response. After so many years of waiting. I got a response.
He opened his mouth whilst in a lengthy gaze as I said 'ahhh' in front of him, asking him to copy me. He moved his lips and opened his mouth like he was going to say 'ahhh'....but no sound came. But he opened his mouth! HE DID! Then he did it again, not once, not twice but several times. With me. Then with his Dad.
I got all misty-eyed. I couldn't believe it! *Sigh*
I got a piece of heaven.
There's something there. I know there is. One day I know I'm going to see it. It maybe wishful thinking but I know J is in there and he wants to come out. I'd like to see it one day. And hear his voice saying something. Even if it's only to say 'Ahhh.'
Yes, that is heaven enough for me. And I'd like another piece of it someday.

Have you heard of Carly's story? I found it on the internet, let me share it with you:

Being a Mum Again
My boy is finally here with us. We've been busy but I'm not complaining. But we've also been worried and stressed out because he was in the hospital for 7 days for chest infection. He's getting better now, thank God.
People have been really supportive and very kind. The nurses at the hospital were great! The doctors were really good.
This may sound really weird - but it feels really peaceful being right in front of my laptop right now, typing away. It feels really relaxing. I haven't done this in ages...I've missed it. Life seems to have become so busy and fast for the last six weeks. No, don't get me wrong. I am not complaining. Seeing my child very ill and being at the hospital was so worrying and stressful. I want him to enjoy being with us and to be happy, jolly and healthy. But as soon as he got here, he was unwell. It felt really bad. I am only a human being and I get tired and weary...so now I'm 'typing-away' my woes so I hope you bear with me.
I haven't even told you about our trip to the Philippines and how enjoyable it was...and how sad it was to leave all my great friends and family. I will share with you all and of course show you the best photographs. Husband and I spent wonderful days and evenings with very good friends Ninang Ruby, Ninong Zal and their lovely children, Ninang Jill, Ninong Joe and Anton, and our good (I mean great!) old friends at WHO where I used to work. I'm missing them all. I really feel bad about not seeing my other friends whom I haven't seen for many years. We didn't have enough time to see everybody and I know some of them may have felt bad (we call it 'tampo' in the Philippines) and may have thought we did it on purpose but the truth is we didn't. If we were there for a longer period, we would have seen all of them, but we were there only for 2 weeks. But then, there will be a next time. Hopefully next time will be a better time and we will be able to see everyone. We may even get together for a really big posh party, who knows? So for now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
In the meantime, I'd like to enjoy being a Mum again. Having J around is bliss. It's nice. I am looking forward to seeing he has fully recovered and that he is so much better.
Will keep you posted.

I will be a busy Mum again!
I know I haven't written anything for quite awhile. I have been really busy getting things for my boy, J. From diapers to fan heater in his bedroom. Husband and I are now getting very excited. It is getting warmer, a little bit, so I am hoping that the weather will not be too harsh when he arrives in England.
My life will change once again when my boy gets here and I am oh-so looking forward to it.
Of course, I will keep you updated. I hope you bear with me as my life will once again be very very busy being a Mum.
